How do I get there?

We're located in the EMTSW Building at 1040 W. Harrison Street, Chicago, IL 60607. If you're taking the train, we are near the UIC-Halstead Blue Line stop. Use the exit on Morgan Street and turn left. If you're driving please park in Lot 1B or the Harrison St. Parking Structure. There is a $10 parking fee. The first 50 registered participants will receive FREE parking!

Are meals provided?

Coffee, tea, and pastries will be provided in the morning. We'll end by 1pm to enable you to grab lunch after the closing keynote. You and your new friends from the day will be able to walk south to Taylor Street or north to Fulton Market to grub and debrief.

Can I earn CPDUs?

Yes! And you'll have fun and learn a lot while earning them. We'll have paperwork available at the conclusion of the event.

How much does it cost?

Free for all! It doesn't get much better than that.

What time do doors open?

Doors open at 8am and our first keynote will start at 8:30am.

What are the workshops?

We're busy finishing the final workshop schedule with topics like using culturally relevant texts, rethinking reading response, linguistically-responsive instruction, place-based teaching and learning, digital and maker literacies, socially-just literacy teaching, and more. You'll get the final schedule the morning of the event. We'll have 20 workshops and you'll choose 3 to attend, so bring your colleagues and friends, split up, and cover the full offerings.

What if I can't attend the full day?

Because we'll be releasing the day's schedule in the morning you won't be able to tailor the day to fit your schedule. If you come but need to leave early you'll need to check out with event staff so that your CPDUs accurately reflect the hours earned.

Will any sessions be video recorded?

No, because our workshops are hands-on and require participation we won't record sessions. Though you should know that we'll be taking photos of the event which may appear on our social media accounts.

I can't attend. Will materials be available to the public?

Part of our goal of the Literacies @ Chicago Super Saturday is to begin to cultivate a network of like-minded Chicago educators who are committed to broadening definitions of literacy, engaging in culturally-sustaining pedagogy, designing linguistically-responsive instruction, and supporting learners in and out of school settings in humanizing, justice-oriented ways. Down the road, we imagine organizing virtual spaces for connecting and annual on-site Super Saturdays. In the meantime, check out our Language, Literacies, and Learning MEd program which offers coursework addressing many of our Super Saturday topics.
